About the Book

Papa Wemba, Icône de la musique africaine, de génération en génération is a biography by congolese writer Didier Bokelo Bili. In the book, Didier blends and presents Papa Wemba‘s both professional and personal lives. Throughout his extensive research, the author presents a portrait of a great singer, and his huge accomplishments. The book is prefaced by Manda Tchebwa, a renowned Congolese music critic and writer. It ends with some short details about the artist tragic death. Didier also briefly discuss the artist legacy. Editions L’Harmattan release the book in October 2016. The book is available on Amazon and the Harmattan website, among other places.

Content Snapshot

The author laid down 153 pages worth of information through five main parts. Part one focuses on Papa Wemba begining and major accomplishments. On part two, Dider focuses on the Viva La Musica evolution through the time, including its many artists. The section is reach in details about individual members of the band, including Reddy Amisi and Maître Gims father Djuna Djanana. to  Then comes the artist and Viva la Musica discography on part three. The fourth part is spent on the 35th anniversary of the artist’s band. The last and shortest part relates the artist last three days at the FEMUA music festival at Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, and his tragic passing.

About the Author

Didier Bokelo Bile is a agro-engineer. He graduated from the University of Kinshasa and Remote sensing from ERAIFT school. Therefore, didier workes in research mapping departments. For instance, he participated to 2015 21rst United Nation conference on climate change.

Didier switched from  scientific papers, to publish this first book. The book results from his passion for the Congolese music, and Papa Wemba.
